What does light mean to you?

This term we have started to talk about light and what it means to us. Throughout this science study we are learning about why light is so important, the beauty of darkness and more. We will also explore different forms of light and learn about our own shadows. We have already made some very exciting discoveries with friction, rainbows, and sparks!

To jump start our light study we discussed what the word light meant to us. This did not have to mean light from the sun or a light bulb but simply the word light. Some students thought of weight, a baby shell is light weight while others thought of God as the light of the world. 

We then explored different things that provide light to us, looking more into sources of light rather than just the meaning of this word. We thought of different important parts of our world including stop lights, dream lights, and sunlight. 

Students designed cards with different light sources.  They will be used for our sculpture challenge, to mold light sources to save and display in our classroom. 

Students have been painting stars to hang in the classroom. This is part of our science curriculum. We will also begin to use black and white paint in the studio to see how they blend together and show through the paper. 

Students have already started bringing in different light sources to share with the class. I encourage you to help your children look around the house, on the walk home or the drive to school to view different light sources. You are welcome to bring in something to share with the class as well!
