Yummy treats!
In order to investigate and explore the Mexican culture the Water class has been cooking and sampling many different dishes. Together as a class we chopped, mixed, and sampled homemade guacamole and salsa. It was a delicious and delightful way to learn more about Mexico!
Before we begin to cook, students determine the necessary ingredients. We used avocado, tomatoes, salt, pepper, onion and garlic in our guacamole. Justin adds a pinch of salt to our mixture. We used a traditional mortar and pestle for the guacamole.
Karis uses the pestle to mash the avocados and mix in all the ingredients.
Anthony is one of the brave students to be first to try the guacamole. He approved with a "thumbs up!"
Tessa samples our Mexican dish.
Dylan is eager and ready for his turn.
Sasha has prior experience with guacamole and goes in for a extra large portion.
Sandy says "It's spicy!"
Although we were unable to go on our field trip, the Water class had an exciting day. To start off, we made homemade salsa during teacher's group! This gave everyone a chance to partake in our creation. Finn adds the fresh tomatoes to the bowl, the main ingredient for our salsa.
Ryli and Jacob smell the herbs. They notice the cilantro has a very strong smell!
"How does the onion smell?"
Justin adds the onion to the salsa. "Careful! Don't let it burn your eyes!" responds Anthony.
Jacob enjoys a tasty treat.
Kyle works carefully to make sure all the chopped parsley is added for flavor.
Noah delights in spooning in some garlic for the salsa.
Ryli squeeze the lime juice into the bowl to some "sour" flavor.
Valentino smells the cilantro.
Theo adds a spoonful of garlic to the mix.
Tessa is feeling ready to try our salsa.
Michael enjoys a mouthful of salsa when it is complete.
Elliott squeezes the lime to get some fresh lime juice.
Dylan is focused on mixing all the ingredients together with a spoon.
Colin bravely tastes the first bite!
Finn is feeling brave to try something new!
Daniel cleans off our cutting board and adds ingredients carefully to the bowl.
"Yummy! I want more!"
Kate loves the salsa! "More, more!" she shouts.
The Kindergarten Water class has thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different foods in Mexico. Students were very brave in trying new foods that they were not familiar with. Have you cooked fresh guacamole and salsa lately?
