Over the past two weeks, students from both the Water and Earth classes have been working in mixed small groups to study one particular South African animal. Guided by a teacher, the students posed questions, conducted research and decided a way to display and present their learning to their classmates. Above the elephant experts teach the group to answer questions that are either "true" or "false." "Elephants really love peanuts- true or false?"

Students in the rhino group display how much they learned through a display in the hallway. They informed the rest of the Kindergarten a lot of interesting information, including how much a rhino weighs, the amount of food they eat and the height of a rhino. Mr. Postema is taller than a white rhino! Wow!

The giraffe group shares drawings and words with the class. It was interesting to learn  that giraffes drink water with their legs spread and a giraffes tongue is as long as a human arm!

The lion group decided to create a folktale of their very own to explain why the lion has a man and claws. Was this a true story?

The leopard group creates a fact filled game all about leopards. They created their own board filled with leopard spots, better known as "rosettes" to the leopard researchers.

We also had a group who created a book all about cape buffalo. We were so thankful for this group as they created a book for further research and learning.

We continue to enjoy our study on South Africa. I encourage you to have conversations pertaining to Shaka, the great warrior of the Zulu people. He has a very exciting topic this week!
