End of the year fun!

Finishing out our study of Mexico

                                            

                                                                       

We made salsa from fresh tomatoes, garlic, onion, and vinegar. Many brave students tried the salsa. It was interesting to compare homemade salsa to salsa we typically eat out of the jar. Yum!

Senora Oro-Hahn came to visit our class to talk with the Kindergarten classes. She brought a map of Mexico for us to view, told us about the journey of Hernan Cortes, and spoke to us in Spanish. It was so exciting to hear about the history of Mexico and the development of this wonderful place. 

The Kindergarten classes took a trip to East LA. We learned a little more about the food that the people in Mexico eat and were able to see a lot of Mexican decorations. We enjoyed sharing this visit with the Kindergarten Earth class.  

We tried cactus! It was somewhat spicy and delicious. Many students felt brave to try this treat!

Before each course that was served our host would tell us what the food was made out of and how it was made. He had a lot of experience and encouraged us to visit again.

We started with chips and salsa, guacamole and sour cream. We moved on to cactus and then a taste of a quesadilla. Lastly, we finished off with some taquitos. All of the food was amazing and our bellies were very full!

Sharing this experience together was a wonderful way to end our study of Mexico. Many of us decided we would go back to the restaurant with our families!

On some of the hottest days the best way to end the day is running through the sprinklers in the park. This really cools us down and is a great way to end a hot week!

Students really enjoy doing this together and it is a fun memory to have from Kindergarten.

To dry off the students practiced a new clapping game. Our hands move in a circle as we travel from one person to the next. 

Students try and move faster through the circle and singing at the same time. What a fun game to try and learn!
